Delfina Carmona | When hands touch the light

Delfina Carmona (Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a Berlin-based photographer, art director and content creator. Thanks to a background in the world of theatre, she usually sets stages mainly for herself to tell her own imaginary stories through daily and playful experimentation with minimal tools, natural light and optical illusions. Due to her unique aesthetics, mainly expressed via her Instagram account, she has also been collaborating with several brands and projects around the world.

Delfina’s pictures seem suspended in dreamlike and oneiric times. She captures moments of ordinary, which resonate with a sense of still contemplation and sensuality. On one hand, the main subject and actor is Delfina herself, often partly undressed body, on the other there are fruits, plants, flowers, water and other liquids. Hands and gestures are also among her favourite subjects as, despite appearing minimal, they wholly express a complex range of emotions. Beds, mirrors, lights, wooden elements as well as a palette made of warm colours – red, yellow, blue, sometimes green – are combined in poetic scenarios to create a reassuring atmosphere. The viewer, thus, is subtly guided and encouraged to step into Delfina’s world of extravagant and sinuous shapes and forms.

Delfina’s imagination is vibrant and susceptible. This leads her to realize compositions that are extremely rich in pathos convey a feeling of delicacy, playfulness, surreal as well as frailty, languor and reality. Every time we see one of her works, they directly bring us to her peculiar craft, because Delfina’s distinctive traits cannot be mistaken and this is exactly what happens with good artists, able to read through their own selves and the world.

Moreover, she masterfully embraces each subject with a totally new approach that allows her to always create something previously unseen. It looks as if she was blissfully absorbed in a kind of smooth fluidity between human existence and elements of nature. Even when she has to imagine scenarios revolving around some branded products, Delfina displays endless perspectives to reach harmonious frameworks.

She is now engaged in daily experimentation in order to expand her practice to video making.Delfina’s artistic practice is a way to express some parts of her personality through a language of her own, where the alphabet is made of light and shadow, of objects and bodies.
